FESTIVAL OF THE HORSE EVENTER TRIAL AREA 14 QUALIFIER

The BRC Area 14 Festival of the Horse Qualifier took place at Thorne Court near Bury St Edmunds on Sunday 15th April.

The competition which is a round of show jumps immediately followed by a cross country course was hosted by St Edmundsbury RC.

We were represented by two Senior teams, the Shrimps and the Scallops.

Initially Corinne had two full teams plus a reserve but as ever with horses things changed at the last minute with one horse being away on trial to be sold and another going lame.

Team Shrimps comprised of Lucy Frost (Polly Whispers), Lee Wright (Total Eclipse), Michelle Colman (Molly) and Emma Grosvenor (Mocha Ice).

The time allowed for the course was tight with only one competitor over the whole day getting within the time. Michelle made a fine effort with a fast double clear and was the best placed Beccles & Bungay RC member finishing fourth individually. Emma also had a double clear but her time penalties kept her out of the placings.

The Shrimps as a whole finished fifth in the Qualifier and fourth in the Area only.

Team Scallops ran as a team of three. They were Corinne Bullock (Diamond Cruise), Alex Capps (Corrie III) and Steve Small (Marcel Midnight Ray).

The water jump was showing signs of the drought and was more a dark muddy hole than a water obstacle. Diamond Cruise, ridden by Corinne, took exception to this and they were unfortunately eliminated at this fence.

This meant as Scallops was a team of three the team was eliminated. However the other team members Alex and Steve, who were representing the club for the first time, also completed the course and gained valuable experience.

High Fen RC Cool Cats team won the qualifier.

Well done to everyone taking part.

The next BRC Area 14 Qualifier is the Horse Trials at Poplar Park on 24th June. If you are interested in being part of a team, or would like to support the team managers by helping on the gound please contact either Lorraine Burwood (Juniors) on lorraine@burwoodfamily.co.uk or Corinne Bullock (Seniors) on geoffandcorinne@btinternet.com

Congratulations to two club members Lucy Frost and Lee Wright on their recent successes at Poplar Park Horse Trials on 10th March.

Lucy Frost riding her own ‘Polly Whispers’ finished on her dressage score of 36 penalties after going clear in both show jumping and cross country. This gave her second place in the BE90 (Section C) just half a point behind the winner.

Riding in the same section was Lee Wright on Alison Rushmer’s horse ‘Total Eclipse’. They were in third place after the dressage on a penalty score of just 28.5. However they picked up 4 further penalties in the show jumping and 8 time penalties on the cross country to finish on a score of 40.5. This was good enough to secure them 7th place.

Well done to all concerned.

BRC AREA 14 INDOOR SHOW JUMPING QUALIFIER

The Area Indoor Qualifier took place at Wix Equestrian Centre on Sunday 26th February.

This was Corinne’s first outing as Senior team manager as the dressage qualifier was cancelled due to the winter weather.

Wix can be very overwhelming especially in the warm up area with eleven teams all running round in a confined space. It was the very first team outing for five of the club riders and all were nervous

The club had entered two Senior teams.

The ‘Shrimps’ was the most experienced team and comprised of Ben Rackham (Robbie), Lucy Frost (Polly Whispers), Samantha Ward (Land Breeze) and Corinne (Diamond Cruise). This was Ben’s first outing for the club. After two rounds the team was holding just four faults. The second round is against the clock and the team secured a very respectable fifth place.

The second team was the ‘Scallops’ and comprised of Emma Julian (Little Irish Magic), Sally Bircham (Jimmy’s Friend) and Sue Stock (Pandora). Bianca Moller (Pewter) was the fourth member of the team but unfortunately ‘Pewter’ went lame and the team was forced to run as a trio. This was the first time any of the riders had represented the club at a Qualifier and they gave it a brilliant go but were unfortunately eliminated.

The club was represented by one Junior team. They also had to run as a team of three when one rider unfortunately had to withdraw. The team consisted of Ebony Dashwood (Lady Luck), Lydia Sida-Page (Idole Des Chauans) and first timer Remy Farrant (Sporting Luck). They too were eliminated but a team of three has a big at a disadvantage as there is no room for error.

Congratulations to all the riders on doing such a magnificent job of representing the club. The next BRC Area 14 show jumping qualifier is a home match as we are hosting it at Geldeston in July. We look forward to cheering you on there.

A reminder that whenever you travel your horse its passport MUST BE WITH YOU. Trading Standards are doing roadside checks and have been warning offenders. But in the near future breaches will result in a large fine. DON’T GET CAUGHT OUT.

For those interested in representing the club at BRC Qualifying competitions it is essential that you ensure your vaccination records are up to date and conform to the rules. Briefly this means that the horse must have had the Primary Vaccinations of two injections with the second being administered between 21 & 92 days sfter the first. After this the first booster must be given between 150 & 215 days after the second primary injection. Annual booster thereon must be given in NOT MORE than 1 year after the preceeding injection.

In addition to this NONE OF THE INJECTIONS maybe given within the PRECEEDING 7 DAYS. This time includes the day of the competition OR ENTRY INTO COMPETITION STABLES.

It seems complicated but the rules are there for horses protection. If you have any doubts contact the Team managers Lorraine Burwood or Corinne Bullock or check the BRC Rule Book.
