Over the Easter weekend the BRC Novice Winter Championships sponsored by KBIS took place at Hartpury in Gloucestershire.
We represented Area 14 in both the Junior and the Senior Novice Show Jumping.
The Junior team consisted of Georgia Wright (Pumpkin Pie), Elle Mitchell (India Moonslate), Imogen Sheldrake (Glenvilla Belle) and Shannon Harrison (Fernyknapp Question Mark).
The girls finished the first round with a team score of 0. They were the only team to achieve this. Nantwich RC went through to the second round with just 3 time penalties, with a further seven teams entering the second round on a score of 4 faults.
Our first three riders managed a clear round, one 4 fault and an 8 fault round in the second stage. Nantwich finished on team score of just 7. The best three rounds counted so this meant we needed a clear round from our last rider, Shannon to win. This was a tense moment for the whole team.
Shannon and ‘Fernyknapp’, along with Elle and ‘Moonslate’, had only ever represented the club once in teams at the qualifier for this event at Wix in February. So this was a high pressure situation for the partnership who were inexperienced at this level of competition.
But Shannon rose to the occasion and went clear. This meant their team score was just 4 faults. No one was 100% certain just in case there were time faults to be added. Everyone waited with bated breath for the result. This exploded in to delighted cheers when it was announced over the PA that Beccles and Bungay Juniors had WON the National Championships!!!
It is a fantastic result for everyone concerned. Well done girls you have represented the club and Area 14 the club magnificently. Helen Regan, our Junior Team Manager, has worked hard for the teams and was disappointed not to be able to attend these Championships. We are extremely grateful to Lee Wright who deputised for Helen and to all the parents for their support.
Our Senior team did not manage to emulate the success of the Juniors but did well in their own right in the Senior Novice Show Jumping. They finished in sixteenth place out of 23 teams with 16 faults.
The team consisted of Sam Palmer (Foreigner of the Lowlands), Madelaine Kasch (Mystique), Steve Small (Millie) and Davina Cattermole (Hugo Boss).
The winners were Wessex Gold.

It is no mean feat to get to the Championships and as a club we have done exceptionally well last year and have started this year brilliantly. It is down to hard work and dedication and we are proud of you all.
