The Members Indoor Dressage took place at Earlsway Farm, Bramfield on Sunday 9th March.
The competition was well supported on the whole although juniors were sadly small in number.
The day started with an Intro B class which was won by new member Belinda Rapley riding her grey spanish horse ‘Jerezano’ (not sure which spanish breed! sorry) with a score of 60.65%. Another new member Kerry Lake riding ‘Mister Jasper’ was second.
There were no competitors for Class 2 – Juniors 12yrs and under – and there were only three competitors in the junior section in class 3 - Prelim 12. Flynn Regan riding his ex- racehorse ‘Knock on the Head’ won 4.5 points ahead of Jasmine Urry and ‘Barney’.
Flynn went on to win the junior section in class 4 – Prelim 18 with 63.33%. Not bad for a horse that spent 10 years on the racecourse and has only been competing at other disciplines for around 18 months.
June Hall and ‘Merrick Fergus’ won the Senior Restricted section in class 3 with a very accomplished test which resulted in a score of 64.4%. Second place went to Lorraine Burwood riding Corinne Bullock’s big youngster ‘Oliver XXVI’ who finished with 61.8%. Ollie is still learning where his legs are supposed to go and it will be interesting to watch his progress during the season.
The Open Senior section was a mother and daughter battle with daughter Lucy Frost and ‘Polly Whispers’ beating her mum, Julie Frost and ‘Horse Heaven Rambo’ by just six points.
Class 4 Open Seniors was a closely fought contest. Mandie Bradley riding her handsome grey ‘Glenaraneen Boy’ and Susannah Close with ‘Prince Albert’ both finished with a score of 70%. However Mandie just pipped Susannah in the collective marks to take top slot.
Mandie repeated her success in Class 4- Novice 24 Restricted section - with Sam Palmer and ‘Foreigner of the Lowlands’ taking second place.
The Open section in class 4 was a very closely fought contest. Georgie Underdown and ‘El Dorado’ won the class with a very precise test and a score of 71.54%, the highest score of the day.
The next three places were decided on collective marks as three riders finished on an overall score of 65%. Susannah Close and ‘Prince Albert’ took second place with Georgie and her other horse ‘Norton Rene’ and Julie Long and ‘Kees’ taking third and fourth respectively.
Georgie and ‘El Dorado’ repeated their success in Class 6, a percentage class, riding Novice 30. Second place went to the other Novice test rider, Ali Rushmer on Wendy Lowes ‘Maggie May’. Ruth Harris and ‘Dan’ rode Elementary 44 to take third place.
Ruth and ‘Dan’ were the sole competitors in the final long arena class riding Elementary 43 and finishing on a score of 63.45%.
The judges for the day were Jane Bourne and Julie Allen.
Many thanks to Fiona Bryant and Zoe Rafferty who wrote for the judges, Claire Drewery, Jane Powell and June Perkins who scored throughout the day and to Michelle Kelly who provided the first aid cover and ensured the delicious food which was supplied by Amy’s Kitchen was there on the day.
Finally thank you to everyone that supported the event. Lets hope the weather is as glorious for all our competitions this year.

Many thanks to the ladies who spent such a beautiful day shut inside doing results etc.
Thanks also for the opportunity to have a go at 2 elementaries. I can’t turn down a challenge! Come on everyone! Be a bit more ambitious next time! There is no embarrassing forfeit to pay if it doesn’t go quite according to plan. I can personally vouch for that!
Yep thanks everyone for a cracking day, pity I got a tad lost in the prelim 18 but hey story of my life eh, maybe u should award points for the most entertaining blunder of the day ?? lol
Thanks for a great day. Well organised and a super turnout. Thank you to all the volunteers and committee members who made the day run so smoothly. It’s great to be back and part of the club again x
We had a great day – very well organised and friendly start to the riding club season. I think Albie appreciated being called in to arena by his full name – as he is the most important member of our partnership! xx
Thank you for a lovely well organised day
