St Edmunds RC hosted the Area 14 Festival of the Horse Eventer Challenge qualifier at Thorne Court, Cockfield on Sunday 13th April.
8 teams took part with 5 teams trying to qualify for the Championship. The Beccles and Bungay ‘Bee’ team once again comprised of Lucy Frost (Polly Whispers), Sam Palmer (Foreigner of the Lowlands), Steve Small (Marcel Midnight Rae) and Georgie Underdown (Puddingbag Lane). They entered the 90cm qualifier class.
Lucy Frost rode the quickest round of the day but this resulted in her receiving 7.2 time penalties as it was an optimum time contest. She was clear as were Georgie and Steve. Sam had a run out but must have been flying round the course as she only had 2.4 time penalties added to her penalty score.
The team total secured them second place with hosts St Edmunds RC winning. It would appear that this will be good enough for them to qualify for the Championships as 5 or more teams entered means the top two teams qualifiy. This of course awaits ratification from BRC HQ.
Georgie Underdown rode her own horse ‘Norton Renee’ as an individual in the 100cm class. Georgie won the class outright and therefore hopefully both her rides will be heading to the Championships at Aston Le Wall later in the season.
We were also represented by Flynn Regan (Knock on the Head), Emma Taylor (Vinnie), Megan Maclean (Magical Mary) and Connor Sharpe (Milly) in the Junior 90cm qualifier. They were the only junior team entered. However they did need to complete the course as a team to qualify which they did with style.
Flynn produced a faultless round and took first place as the junior individual. Megan collected just eight faults in the show jumping and this secured her second place individually. Connor had to ride in wet breeches following a minor mishap in the lorry with a water bucket. He accumulated four faults in the show jumping and 8.8 time penalties over the course for being too fast. Obviously trying to dry his breeches! He took the third place individually.
Well done to all members and supporters. What an excellent start to the season for our teams.
