OPEN SHOW – RESULTS & REPORT

The Open Show took place at Geldeston Hall on Sunday 14th June.

Entries were at a reasonable level and for the most part the weather was a lot kinder than anticipated.

Several club members enjoyed a successful day.

In the show jumping Davina Cattermole and ‘Hugo Boss’ won three classes. These included the speed class, the open 75cm and the 85 cm class. In fact lots of members featured in the show jump places which hopefully bodes well for the area qualifiers that we are hosting next month.

Rachel Ashford & 'Rowley' In Hand Champions

We were very lucky to secure Jane Etheridge to judge the in hand classes. Entries for these classes were down on last year but the standard was high. Once again one of our members, Rachel Ashford with ‘Rowley’ (aka C’est la Vie) was very successful winning the Best Turned Out and the Foreign Breed. She went onto win the In Hand Championship with Lynda Bedwell and Rhydarth Annie standing reserve.

Our Utility judge was Liv Ibbott. These classes were pretty busy.

Once again members did well. June Hall and ‘Merrick Fergus’ won the ridden veteran and Rachel Ashford’s winning streak continued as she and ‘Rowley’ won the All Rounder class. Rachel then went on to take Reserve Utility Champion with Rosie Revell and ‘Ceannaiteach Marsaille’ taking the Utility Champion title after winning the First Pony class.

Several of our newest young members featured in the placings of the Fun classes. These included Tabitha Wells on ‘Foxy Lady’, Rebecca Mace on ‘HRF Diva’ and Lauren Tattersall on ‘Portia’. It’s wonderful to see ‘Portia’ still going strong. She has attended more club shows over the years than most of our committee!

The ridden showing was judged by Ann Green who is an international judge.

Joan Gunton & 'Sirius Black' Foreign Breed winner and Ridden Reserve Champion

It was lovely to see our president, Joan Gunton competing again. Not only that, but she was very successful winning the Open Show Hunter class and the Foreign breed class on her lovely chestnut ‘Sirius Black’. She topped this off by taking the Ridden Reserve Championship. Mark Youngs and ‘Rockley Beach’ took the Ridden Championship.

The Working Hunter classes were judged by Simon Bloss. Entries in these classes were a little disappointing with no one coming forward for the Nursery Stakes.

Member Billie Fobbester with ‘Monty’ won the Working Cob class against a small field. She did the same in the Green Working Hunter pony class this time on ‘Honey’. Members also took the next two classes with Zoe Campling and ‘Merlin’ winning the Green Working Hunter and Alice Able and ‘Seafield Park Peddlar’ winning the Open Working Hunter pony class.

Members just failed to make a clean sweep of the Open Working Hunter class as it was won by Ellie James and ‘Fern’. However members Helen Yallop (Zakanaka), Amy Oliver Squire (Top Dottie), June Hall (Merrick Fergus) and Steve Small (Marcel Midnight Rae) did take the next four places respectively.

The final Working Hunter class was won by another member Kelly Chaston on ‘Pewter’. Billie Fobbester took the Working Hunter Championship with ‘Monty’ and Alice Able and ‘Seafield Park Peddlar’ took the Reserve Champion slot.

Supreme and Reserve Champions with judges Jane Etheridge & Simon Bloss

The Supreme Championship was judged by Jane Etheridge and Simon Bloss. After careful deliberation the Supreme Champion title went to our very own Rachel Ashford and ‘Rowley’ with Mark Youngs and ‘Rockley Beach’ taking Reserve. Well done Rachel!!

Thank you to our stewards, Stacey Lain, Corinne Bullock, Trish and David Harris and Sally and Jeff Payne. Also to Zoe Rafferty, Jane and Kevin Stone and Janet and Paul Woolner for running the show jumping between them. There are many other people that we are also extremely grateful to for preparing and running the show and for dismantling it. It involves a great deal of time and effort.

Not least we are extremely grateful to all our sponsors who sponsor the rings or provide the prizes for the class winners.

The final thank you goes to all the competitors who supported the event.
