JUNIOR TEAM SUCCESS AT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS CONTINUES

The British Riding Clubs Winter Intermediate Show Jumping Championships, sponsored by Treehouse Sporting Colours, took place at Bury Farm EC, Slapton, Buckinghamshire over the weekend of 30th April and 1st May.
Area 14 was represented in the Junior competition by our team after they qualified in February at Topthorn EC.

The team members were Georgia Wright (Da Vinci W), Alice Able (Sea Field Park Peddlar), Oliver Kidner (Freddy) and Georgia Cattermole (Wise Dennis).

Sixteen teams took part. The competition runs over two rounds with the best three scores from each team counting towards the team total. It was a close competition with excellent riding from all competitors over a challenging course as one would expect at a Championship.

Lee Wright, who took the team through the course walk, said ‘There was a really friendly atmosphere and the team spirit was high. Everything from parking, to warm up and the final presentations were all run seamlessly’.

After the first round Beccles and Bungay RC score was just four faults and they were still in contention.
In the second round both Oliver Kidner and Georgia Cattermole produced double clears but with Georgia Wright and Alice Able both knocking a single pole down for four faults each the team finished on a total of eight faults.

The winners were Rearsby Lodge RC from Leicester who finished with four excellent double clears. Woking and Bearwood RC from Berkshire were second finishing with just four faults.

Three teams finished on eight faults but Beccles and Bungay RC took third place with the fastest accumulative team time. It is an excellent result for them and the clubs junior teams are currently experiencing great success in national competitions.

Alice Able, who has represented the club at previous Championships said ‘I was really excited at returning to the Championship again this year. The feature jumps were amazing but most of all it was the lovely friendly organisers, my team mates and supporters that made the weekend special, coming third this year was great. It’s a big show but has a big family feeling. We’ll work hard and try to qualify again for next year.

All the members work hard to achieve these successes and the club is very grateful to our Junior team manager, Helen Regan and Lee Wright for all the time and support they gave our members.
