RIP Greenlinks Portia 24.09.15

Very sadly we would like to inform everyone that one of Beccles and Bungay’s longest serving members has sadly passed on to horsey heaven.

The much loved Portia was bought by the Cattermole family in 2001 and Charlotte’s first event on Portia was the Open Show at Geldeston Hall. Little did anyone know at that time how many ribbons and trophies she would pick up in the future.

Charlotte had loads of fun in gymkhanas, showing classes, jumping, pony club and the hunt field before Georgia took up Portia’s reins to follow in her sister’s footsteps.

Portia was too special to sell so after Georgia, Flynn Regan took her on loan, which was the first of many loan homes.

Portia soon became known as the ‘rider developer’. Her last home was with Sadie and Lauren Tattersall. Lauren has developed over the past year from lead rein, to a confident young rider, and at the last fun show Lauren and Portia were competing in the showjumping ring and continuing the Portia tradition of winning many gymkhana races too.

Very sadly Portia had suffered with intermittent breathing problems and in August a huge abscess appeared on her face and a molar had to be removed. Then with Cushings diagnosed, last Thursday saw Portia with chronic laminitis and very sadly even with lots of love and A1 care from Sadie & Lauren, to whom the Cattermole family are very grateful,  the difficult decision had to be made that it was time to say goodbye.

So many people can tell many happy stories about Portia, she was such a star for so many years, the Cattermole family feel very privileged to have had Portia to love, as do her many loanees.
